G.A.T

The Hammerstep G.A.T (Guerrilla Action Team) - is a progression of one of the founding Hammerstep concepts: Utilizing dance and movement performance as an agent for positive resistance, and to spark public dialogue and action wthin current social environments.

A BRIEF HISTORy:

Having previously experimented with public ambush, Hammerstep developed a team (along with other collaborators) called 'Sneaky Steppers'.  The team experimented with public dance ambush and through comedy and surprise elements, spread our dance form through many exotic environments and contexts. Several short videos and a viral flash mob (directed and organized by HS co-founder Jason Oremus)  saw the Sneaky Stepper crew utilize international  locations such as China, Singapore,  Egypt, UK, Australia, Israel and the US to provide the public with our  initial boundary testing performance climates.

TODAy:

We have moved on from Sneaky Steppers. As our vision is refined and our momentum grows, so does our ambition. Hammerstep's G.A.T will be a very real force of controversial, boundary testing performance that goes beyond just comedic relief. It will challenge the way you think about  a free society, one that does not demand you conform to the preset notions of image, gender, sterotypes, or traditional 'success'. One that allows free transfer of information between civilians and authority alike. A visible society on both ends, one that does not compulsively monitor your every move or entrench you in a debt cycle in exchange for being a 'player in the societal game.'  Hammerstep debunks this prescription. We don't always have to play in that game. Let's create our own roadshow, one centered around unified empowerment.
